Security forces launched the operation in Adigam village after receiving intelligence about the terrorists’ presence. As forces conducted a door-to-door search, the terrorists opened fire, leading to an exchange of gunfire.

“An encounter has started in the Adigam Devsar area of Kulgam. Police and security forces are actively engaged. Further details will follow,” tweeted the Kashmir Police Zone.

Earlier, on September 15, terrorists exchanged fire with security forces in the Poonch district. On September 14, a gunfight in Baramulla resulted in the death of one terrorist, following the loss of two Army personnel in Kishtwar. Another encounter took place on September 11 in Udhampur district.

Jammu and Kashmir has seen sporadic violence as it prepares for its first Assembly elections in a decade. The elections are being conducted in three phases, with two already completed on September 18 and 25. The final phase is set for October 1, with vote counting scheduled for October 8.

India Responds to Pakistan PM at UNGA Over Kashmir Remarks

In a robust response at the UN General Assembly (UNGA) on Friday, India condemned Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s comments on Kashmir, labeling them as “hypocrisy at its worst.” The remarks were made during the General Debate of the 79th session of the UNGA.

Indian diplomat Bhavika Mangalanandan stated, “A country run by the military, known globally for terrorism, has the audacity to criticize the world’s largest democracy.” She highlighted Pakistan’s history of using cross-border terrorism against India, noting attacks on Indian Parliament, Mumbai, and various public places.

“The real truth is that Pakistan covets our territory and has consistently employed terrorism to disrupt elections in Jammu and Kashmir, an integral part of India,” she added, warning that cross-border terrorism would lead to consequences for Pakistan.

Mangalanandan described Sharif’s assertions about Kashmir as “unacceptable” and emphasized that repetition of false claims would not alter India’s position. She criticized Pakistan for its record on human rights and terrorism, pointing to its hosting of figures like Osama bin Laden.

Sharif, in his address, called for the reversal of Article 370 and urged dialogue for a peaceful resolution regarding Jammu and Kashmir, likening the struggles of Kashmiris to those of Palestinians. He also claimed that Muslims face persecution in India, citing a rise in Islamophobia linked to a so-called Hindu supremacist agenda.

India has consistently maintained that Jammu and Kashmir, along with Ladakh, are integral parts of the nation, irrespective of Pakistan’s ongoing attempts to internationalize the issue.
