Punjab Police Enhances Second-Line Border Security to Counter Terrorism & Drugs
In a major effort to enhance the border security on the Indo-Pak border, the Punjab Police has initiated several steps to enhance surveillance and counter the menace of drug smuggling and terrorism. The enhanced security from Pathankot to Fazilka is designed to strengthen the second line of defense.
Key Developments:
CCTV Surveillance: 2,300 CCTV cameras will be installed at 703 strategically selected points to enhance surveillance and check illicit activities.
Prevention of Cyber Crimes: A new Cyber Crime Police Station was inaugurated at Pathankot, which has state-of-the-art technology to effectively counter cyber-based crimes.
Upgrades to Command & Control: The Command & Control Centre has been enhanced with 344 HD cameras, including Auto Number Plate Readers (ANPR), with another 357 cameras to be installed shortly.
Inter-Agency Coordination: A joint Punjab Police, Army, and Border Security Force (BSF) meeting was held to enhance coordination to check terrorism, drug smuggling, and drone attacks on the border.
Rewarding Excellence: DGP Punjab also presented commendation discs and appreciation letters to high-achieving Punjab Police and BSF officers for their excellent performance in border security.
Security Audit: DGP Punjab also inspected the BSF’s Shaheed Kamaljeet Singh Border Outpost (BOP) to check the security measures and discuss any operational issues.
Secured Border Security Through Coordination
Effective coordination between Punjab Police, BSF, the Army, and Central agencies is still the key to ensuring robust border security. Seamless coordination and real-time information exchange is the key to preventing the emerging threats, particularly the use of drones to smuggle drugs.
These preventive measures reflect the resolve of Punjab towards national security and security of the people, and serve as a robust defense against foreign aggression.
