Shri Anil Kamboj Inspector General (Retd), a Post Graduate in Physics (Electronics) from APS University Rewa (MP), joined BSF as a Direct Entry Officer on 02 Feb 1976. He has exceled in almost all the 26 Courses which he has undergone, including EME (SA) Course, Junior Command and Senior Command under the Army. He was an authority in Functioning of all types of weapons and instruments held in the Force. The Officer has served as Class ‘A’ Instructor in all the three Premier Training Institutions of BSF.

Shri Anil Kamboj has wide experience in Counter Insurgency/Militancy Operations in Punjab, Jammu & Kashmir and Northeast India. He has commanded Battalion on the International Border as well as in Manipur for counter insurgency operations. Later he commanded a newly raised Sector in the sensitive South Tripura in Tripura Frontier. In this remote area, one of the Battalion under his Sector won the Gen Choudhary Trophy (Best Battalion of the Force) in 2007. While posted as Sector DIG, Shri Anil Kamboj got lot of development work done in the remote border area of his Udaipur Sector (Tripura). He got the living / working conditions for the Border men improved. To view this Director General BSF visited his Sector during December 2007. He was very much impressed and awarded Shri Anil Kamboj with the Director General Commendation Roll. In his Sector he also got full-fledged 300 metres eight lane firing range constructed.

He was also in-charge of BSF Modernisation Program from 2001 to 2004 and later in 2010. The Officer remained posted as PSO Jammu Frontier and later as DIG Provision at Force HQs. He was also posted as DIG Administration which is considered as one of the most prestigious post before being posted as Inspector General Kashmir Frontier in July 2011. This Frontier is regarded as the most sensitive Frontier of BSF. Shri Anil Kamboj is recipient of Police Medal for Meritorious Services (1992) and President’s Police Medal for Distinguish Services. He has also received four Director General’s Commendation Roll.

The Officer has delivered lectures /talks at different Training Centres and Institutes of the BSF, Police Organisations like NPA, ITBP Academy, State Police Training Centres and civil Institutes etc.

Shri Anil Kamboj has also remained as Senior Fellow in the Institute of Defence Studies and Analyses from Aug 2004 to Oct 2006. He has carried out research work on” Insurgency in North East India and its Impact on National Security”. He has written number of Articles and Papers on various subjects pertaining to situation in Iraq, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, Pakistan, Afghanistan and Myanmar besides on matters pertaining to Internal Security in India.

The Officer is also a keen sports person. He has been a National Cricket Umpire and Curator. He has prepared number of cricket pitches/ground for National tournaments, International matches including World Cup.

Shri Anil Kamboj Superannuated from Service as Inspector General on 31 December 2011 after completing 36 years of Service. At present he is a Professor at New Delhi Institute of Management.
