BholaNath Sharma joined BSF in 1977 and served in various capacities theatres before serving as ADC to Governor Mizoram during 1982-87, a period of insurgent movement and transition from UT to state. He also served in Punjab during the peak of militancy (1987-91) and the Kashmir valley during 1996-99 in anti-militancy role. Having undergone many prestigious courses with Indian Army from HAWS Gulmarg, Army War School Mhow and DSSC Wellington, he also served in BSF Academy as instructor where he specialised in border management, and counter-insurgency courses. He has carried out numerous case studies on important operational cases, besides authoring many articles in reputed journals and professional publications. Presently, he is working on a book on his experience on teaching young BSF officers.
