An alumni of the National Defence Academy, Lt. Gen. Vijay Singh was commissioned into the 9th Gorkha Rifles in June, 1981. He has also had the privilege of attending the Defence Services Staff College and the National Defence Course (NDC-52). He retired in 2019.
Being in the Infantry, he has spent nearly 15 years in Jammu and Kashmir in various ranks and appointments, which include commanding a Brigade on the Line of Control, BGS (operations) in the Northern Command and GOC of a Rashtriya Rifles Force. He has also worked in the Army Headquarters in various assignments that include being responsible for the Indian Army deployments in the United Nations Peacekeeping Operations. In the rank of Lt. Gen., he was the Director General Staff Duties in New Delhi and thereafter the Chief of Staff in the South Western Command.
His tenure in Jammu and Kashmir has given him considerable exposure in CI operations and dynamics along the Line of Control and the Line of Actual Control. He has also served on the Western Borders.
Now an ardent follower international affairs, he focuses on understanding changing power dynamics that impact India’s Way Ahead.
